"Do3a’a ElKarawan"

“Do3a’a ElKarawan” Composition by Mohamed Abdelwahab Abdelfattah. Suite for Ensemble 7 Instruments (1 flute, Bass Clarinet in B flat & String Quintet)

“Do3a’a ElKarawan” means in Arabic “The Nightingale's Prayer”.  It is a suite consists of six movements. The melodies in this suite are inspired by the “Do3a’a ElKarawan” movie which is one of the best films made by the Egyptian classical cinema. The novel by the Dean of Arabic Literature, Dr. Taha Hussein and the movie directed by Henry Barakat, starring Faten Hamama (Amna), Ahmed Mazhar (Albashmohandes) , Zahret ElOla (Hanady),  Amina Rizk (Mother) and others.

Music is generally written in a contemporary style belongs to "postmodernism".  Mohamed Abdelwahab Abdelfattah created in this style a new term called "modern Egyptian romance," which interested in the beauty of the music and dramatic expression. The composer forces all artistic techniques to achieve this style.  As a result, the musical elements move freely without taking care of any theoretical concept.  Abdelfattah writes his melodies in tonal and atonal tetrachords.  He also mixes lyrical and dramatic melodies in his music using sharp rhythmic motives and complex polyrhythms. The String instruments play a vital role in orchestration, with focusing in, solo and duet, wind instruments.  In general, orchestration shows the contrast between brightness and darkness tone colors.

The First Movement, “Chasing Nightingale "
This movement is very active, inspired by the scene of the chasing that shows (Albashmohandes) chases (Amna), trying to rape her. Piccolo, flute, clarinet and trumpet play a pivotal role to express how the Nightingale suffers and rejoices. He suffers influencing by this scene and rejoices because Satan was defeated at the end.

The six Movement, “You are in my heart forever”

The tune in this movement based on the original movie music that was composed by "Andrea Ryder" Abdelfattah writes the famous melodies of this music with unconventional harmonies. He mixes his new romantic musical phrases with traditional melodies of the original movie. Abdelfattah’s music expresses the change feeling of (Amna) toward (Albashmohandes), form hate and revenge to the feelings of love.
